Doha, Qatar • 06th December 2012 - The Qatar Energy and Industry Pavilion organized a special prize giving ceremony to winners of the Energy and Industry ECO-Competitions. Held at the Doha Exhibition Centre, in conjunction with the Qatar Sustainability Expo 2012, the ceremony was attended by Mr. Saif Al-Naimi, Director - HSE Regulations & Enforcement Directorate at Qatar Petroleum, Mr. Abdulaziz al-Khater, Chief Executive Officer at Doha Film Institute (DFI) and Mr. David Dougan, Head of Global Governance at Doha Bank.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Saif Al-Naimi congratulated the winners and thanked both the DFI and Doha Bank’s ECO-Schools for their support in making the competitions a success.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the winners here today and thank them for their efforts and participation. I would also like to extend my gratitude to both DFI and Doha Bank for their support. We are delighted with the overwhelming response we have received from Doha Bank’s ECO-Schools and the public. These competitions have certainly raised environmental awareness,” he said.
Dr. R. Seetharaman, Doha Bank Group CEO, said that “We are pleased to be part of this initiative and look forward to further promote the ECO-Schools Programme, in synergy with Qatar Petroleum in driving eco awareness campaigns. The ECO-Schools is an award programme that Doha Bank has put together to guide schools on sustainability initiatives. The programme which is leading by example in Qatar and the GCC, provides substantial opportunities to schools to explore various environmental concepts that can be implemented, improved, developed or retrofitted at their respective premises.”
The ceremony also involved a preview of the three winning film entries for the Eco-Film Competition. The winning entries were selected by judges from the DFI. Commenting further on this was DFI CEO Mr. Abdulaziz Al-Khater said: “We are delighted to support this initiative, as it is a good opportunity for members of the public to use and appreciate film as a medium that can reach a wider audience while reinforcing the message of environmental protection”.
The winners for the essay writing, drawing and painting and Eco-film competitions were invited to receive their prizes on stage. The competition inspires student’s creativity, passion and commitment on the concept of being green in the modern world.
