Doha Bank launches GREEN BANK website.

Doha Bank has launched its Green Bank website, depicting the bank’s initiative in promoting environmental issues by reaching out to both the public and private sectors. It features the Bank’s various eco-activities undertaken, green products and services offered and all upcoming environment-related events.

The website provides an insight into Doha Bank’s transformation into an eco-friendly institution and the practical steps taken by the Bank to encourage society to shift their mindset into going green.

Doha Bank and UNESCO have drawn up plans to work together as a team in various events including eco-Schools, tree planting, adopt-a-beach campaign, recycling and waste management.

Dr Benno Beer, UNESCO Ecological Sciences Advisor for the Arab Region said, “UNESCO AND Doha Bank aim to generate long-term and visible impact for environmental improvement, especially in Qatar and the Gulf, based on science and education. The Doha Green Bank website is a valuable tool to increase public awareness on environmental improvement of urban ecosystems, cities and buildings. It is in this context that we congratulate Doha Bank for their efforts, and we certainly hope that it will inspire others to join us.”

The site reflects on Doha Bank’s efforts in greening the environment through its day-to-day operations, product designs and mission policies. It is envisioned to become a hub whereby customers can participate through blog entries to further the Bank’s objectives for a cleaner and greener Qatar through the Green Wall page.

Mr. Abdullah M. Al Kuwari, Centre Director and Chairman of Organizing Committee - Green Qatar Centre said, "Doha Bank is taking the lead through various green initiatives in making Qatar clean and green. The Centre is actively promoting the concept of being green through organizing home garden competition, school garden competition, drawing and painting for children, planting trees throughout Qatar and having a special internet site for the Centre. In this regards, we look forward to showcase the same in Doha Green Bank website and collaborate with Doha Bank's Planet Savers Club for these eco-activities."

Green-related articles and links are provided in the website to enrich society’s knowledge on the importance of being green. It encourages existing customers to shift to green accounts and sign-up for online delivery of bank statements with the ultimate aim of reducing paper consumption and saving more trees. It also features biodegradable Green Cards made from non-PVC plastic to replace the traditional cards. The site includes a wide range of eco-activities initiated by the Bank through Doha Bank’s Green Banking Task Force Committee and the in-house Planet Savers Club.

Mr. R. Seetharaman, CEO, Doha Bank said: “This website is just one among the many green initiatives taken by the Bank. Its new Head Office constructed at West Bay Area is designed to be energy-efficient with the latest technologies incorporated in preparation for LEED Certification and all other upcoming Branches will follow suit.”

Doha Bank is the first institution to launch this concept in the Middle East and take a position as the first bank in the region to propagate a green culture. It won the Best Green Bank 2008 Industry award instituted by The Banker Middle East. The Bank was also recognized by the Green Qatar Centre and awarded for its proactive participation in the National Campaign on Qatar Green and Clean.
